Questions worth asking.
-
Yes. Couples begin with the Strategic Relationship Assessment. Individuals begin with a standard intake and move directly into ongoing counseling.
-
A structured four-session process that gives couples a clear picture of what's actually happening in their relationship before ongoing work begins. Session one is a joint intake. Sessions two and three are individual — one with each partner. Session four is a comprehensive feedback session where I present a clinical formulation and strategic roadmap.
You leave with a written Relationship Feedback and Working Map. That document is the foundation everything else builds on.
-
Yes. Couples work begins with the Assessment. No exceptions. This isn't a formality — it's what makes the rest of the work function. Without it, we're reacting. With it, we're working from a map.
-
We decide together. For most couples, the next step is ongoing counseling or a relationship intensive. For some, the Assessment itself provides enough clarity to move forward independently. There's no obligation built into the process — only information.
-
That depends on your goals, the complexity of your patterns, and what you decide after the Assessment. Some couples gain significant clarity through the Assessment alone. Others continue for months. There's no predetermined timeline. We move at a pace that supports real change.
-
No. Intensives build directly on the Assessment. The map we build in those four sessions is what makes intensive time focused and efficient rather than exploratory.

Individual counseling may be eligible for insurance reimbursement depending on your plan. I do not accept insurance for couples work, the Strategic Relationship Assessment, or Relationship Intensives.
The reasons are practical: couples sessions run longer than standard reimbursable session lengths, insurance requires a single identified patient with a clinical diagnosis — which doesn't reflect how I work with relationships as systems — and reimbursement rates for relational work make it difficult to provide the depth and time this work requires.
Out-of-network documentation is available upon request for individual clients whose plans allow it.
-
Individual counseling: 50–55 minutes. Couples counseling: Up to 2 hours. Relationship Intensives: Up to 3 hours. Assessment sessions: Vary by phase — individual sessions are typically up to 1 hour; joint sessions typically run up to 2 hours.
I see clients Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM–12:00 PM and 2:00–5:00 PM, with occasional exceptions.
-
My work is primarily in-person. Virtual sessions are available on an as-needed basis for established clients when circumstances require it. I do not offer telehealth as a standard option for new clients.
-
The Assessment is especially useful in that situation. It gives you an accurate picture of what's actually happening — which is useful whether your goal is repair, discernment, or a more intentional ending. Clarity is valuable regardless of where you land.
-
Yes. Gottman Method couples therapy is foundational to how I work. My clinical approach integrates Gottman Method alongside Emotionally Focused Therapy, Internal Family Systems, and attachment theory. I don't apply one method universally — I use what the system in front of me actually needs. For couples who specifically sought out a Gottman-trained therapist, that training is central to the work.
-
It's clinical work. The fact that it may feel directive or strategic reflects the clinical approach — not a departure from it. I am a licensed clinician. The work is grounded in clinical training throughout.
-
In practice, the terms are largely interchangeable and describe the same kind of work. If a distinction exists, it's usually that "counseling" implies shorter-term, problem-focused support, while "therapy" implies deeper systemic work. My practice integrates both — the strategic clarity of good counseling with the clinical depth of evidence-based therapy. Whether you searched for marriage counseling or couples therapy, you're in the right place.
